Hoarded Series was created between 2012 and 2015 during a transformative period of my life marked by rebirth and clearing out. During this time, I noticed that many people I knew had accumulated a vast array of items that, while seemingly trash to some, held sentimental or inexplicable value to others. These items ranged from cigar wrappers to calendars, stamps, and more. Inspired by this, I aimed to create large-scale works utilizing these abundant supplies, often reflecting the aesthetics of quilts and tapestries.
This series was born during a time when my children were young, and my studio practice was undergoing a significant shift. With the demands of parenting and a need to avoid toxic materials, I embraced a new identity in my creative process. Often, I would sew with my children on my lap, weaving these moments into the fabric of my work. Some of the techniques I developed during this period have since carried into my newer mixed media creations, and occasionally, remnants of the original materials find their way into these pieces.
The Hoarded Series was featured in my first solo exhibition at The 100 Pearl Street Gallery in Hartford, CT. While some works from this series still exist, many were never meant to withstand the test of time, reflecting the ephemeral nature of the materials themselves.
